I was serving on the USS SARATOGA [CVA-60] homeported at Mayport, Florida, when the Shang was decommed. We were instructed to come aboard and strip the bedding for the Sara. I'll always remember the Huge Florida License plate on the bow. It had WWII on it. Terry OUT!

My dad, William P. Ormiston (ser. # 6112053) served on the Shangri-La. I remember him telling me about the shake down cruise to Trinidad, the air attack on Okino Daito Shima, and attending the beer party on Mog Mog Island at Ulithi!

I served aboard the Shangri-La from 44 to 46 My duty station was No. 1 Fireroom. Any one left out there t5hat was in No. 1 fireroon at the same time. I was a Machinest Mate and manned the pumps that feed water to the boilers and heated the oil. I can still picture every one's faces but am also bad on names. I went the whole time know only as Smokey, even at muster, because no one could pronounce my name. If any one is out there please get in touch.

Lately I have been trying to find information about my father during his service years and have gotten tremendous response from the association. My father as far as I have found served during 46-47, and his name is Carl Lee Cox SM3 K Division on the USS ShangriLa. If there is anyone out there that may remember him, please contact me at the posted address. Thank you for this chance to get his name out there.

Thanks for your Shangri-La website! My father, Dean Merle Anderson (Pharmacist's Mate 2nd Class) was aboard CV 38 from late '44 thru the end of the war. He was attached to a Marine Corps unit out of San Diego. Home town (mine too) was Brockway, PA. Petty Officer Anderson told me precious little about his days at sea (he worked 4 yrs in the Merchant Marines following the war), but he did take some good pictures. This is just an opening salvo; hope to be in touch again soon. Anderson, LR (US Navy Reserve '85-'93) Photo Lab USS America CV 66

Hi: I visited my brother, Ed Coulson, AMM, aboard the Shangri-La when it was docked at North Island, Diego, CA, About '44 or '45. Can't anyone remember when I walked thru that hatchway on my tour of your ship. My brother had a couple of friends I met, Jerry Adams and Fred Jester. I wonder if they are still Ok. Ed hasn't heard from them. I met a Chief during that visit but don't remember his name and he probably doesn't remember mine either. I hate to say it but I'm not sure but I think the Chief and I went out on a date. Hey, it's been a lot of yrs. Smooth Sailing to all. Irene PS Kelly already wrote to me and also read my story of my visit aboard ship which is on the Waves National Site #1 and is linked to the Reunion Association site as "Good Wave Site" That's our local unit and then it links to #1. Can't remember the URL but then at my age, I'm lucky to remember how to connect on the web. LOL

Great website. Thanks for your efforts. I served aboard from August 68 to March 70 in OI Division and am now the SHANGRI-LA Association Historian.

I enjoyed the log. I was an 18 year old Marine when I joined the ship, and I am also plank owner. I will try and send some additional info for your web. I am still working so it will take me a few months to pull things together.

I'm glad to see a page devoted to the early years of the "Shang." I was aboard from March, 1946 to October, 1947. (Up to the point of decomissioning at Hunters Point San Fransisco.) I was in the "F" division as a FC3. Would like to hear from anyone else who served about the same time as I did.

Some of my greatest memories are of the Shangri La; I was aboard the ship 1946-47 and was part of the group who decommissioned her at Hunters Point, SF. I was an aviation bosun. It was nice to read about the Shangri La. Good job, Mr Crawford. Sincerely, Paul Myers
